DIRECTOR: the minimum for guild directors working on a short film or documentary is over $10,000 a week. For high budget theatrical motion pictures it is about $14,500 per week. Directors of half-hour television shows should earn no less than $9,000 per episode on non-network, non-primetime shows.
A bachelor’s or associate degree in radio and television arts or broadcasting is usually required to become a television director. Attending film school, or taking courses in film production, is highly recommended for directors wishing to work in feature films or documentaries.
SET DESIGNER: The median salary for set designers is around $36,000 a year, but they can earn over $50,000 a year once they have gained a good reputation. Those who rise to become art directors generally earn between $70,000 and $150,000 a year.
Although a college education is not a requirement to work as a set designer, it can be very useful. Degree programs in fine arts, theater design, and film and video production are all relevant.
